Game of the Week for T43

Round 1 : miazga vs Majamutu Sokolsky still lives ! and he was not "insane" :o) because he wins ! Nice distraction on Qside then once fN is pulled to QSide out of position , the Kside attck starts ...

Round 2 : miazga vs poni - Sokolsky wins again ! only this time with a Kside distraction . Goading Black into the R for B sac on move 27 is key ; allows White the tempo to ignore the attack on his Qside after 0-0-0 ...

Round 3 : GadsHill vs BrerRabbit - a tight , snug game until move 24 , when White can snatch a pawn . Then once his N gets another one , it's just a matter of trading Qs and Rs evenly ..

Round 4 Magagna vs SneakyRed - Qs off the board early , so this became a tactical struggle . Black has to stare death in the face , but squirms out nicely enough to escort d and e pawns into winning position ..

Round 5 AngryPirate vs sly20 - White attacks well , gets the white B for a pawn . But the middle is wide open ; has to stare down a mating threat from a Q-ing pawn - with the help of a timely R-for-N sac ...

Round 6 CaoCao vs miazga - Long game ...Black controls it by dominating the middle , surviving a R loss to a N pin . White gets an opening to work with , and creates a viable mating threat ; excellent endgame execution ( :o) ) saves the day ...

Game of the Week for T42

Round 1 : TerryMalloy vs QueensCounselor - White initiates a white Bishop trade on move 4 , and thus plays to control all the white squares of mid-board and those diagonals ,which allows for a piece-grabbing attack on c-column ....

Round 2 : chesskilleruk vs easycure - ck's 1st STC win ! The opening gives White solid control of the middle ; Black's unwillingness to trade Bs for Ns costs him a R ; then a R-for-N sac weakens the rest of his defense ...

Round 3 : Paulkov vs matein7 - Black appears to have regained the pawn he lost on move 2 , but now the way is open for White's d-pawn push . Once B takes the f6N , the way to the back rank is clear . Black must make many forced moves , that aren't in its favor ...

Round 4 : juniorVishy vs Satellite-Dan - Excellent tactics by Black leads to control of both flanks . A feint toward Kside splits White's forces ; now it can't defend the Qside thrust of b pawn . Initiating the trades was not in White's favor ...

Round 5 : chicopee-ed vs MikeA - Evenly played into a B-N endgame ; then ( @27) Black misses the potential fork of its B and a pawn by N-C6 . All White needs is that one-pawn advantage ...

Round 6 : JeeniousChess vs Portola - Sokolsky lives ! and wins ... Evenly played , but Black's 19 ... p-h5 sets up a weakness White uses to get "behind enemy lines" and , while grabbing pawns , set up the mate ....

Game of the Week for T41

Round 1 : tc66062 vs koni - Good endgame tactics decide this one . Once they get there , White seems to control the flanks , but Black is able to use its last piece(N) better than White(B) and create more passers ...

Round 1, Honorable Mention : TwentyMiles vs kingphisch - Twenty's 1st League win ! Things are fairly even , except White keeps a pawn 1 sq. closer to Q-ing than Black , so Black's R can't protect its pawns and stop Q too ....

Round 2 : Ptzz vs Folgers - Black takes the c4 pawn and still wins ! Even sacs a B for the g2 pawn , to open the K's defense up . Then uses 30 moves to evade White's pressure and nurse a pawn down for a Q replacement ...

Round 3 : AMAV vs BadHabitMarco - A game only a gambiteer could love :o) A 20-move VERY tactical sequence leaves black a N up but a pawn down , for the endgame . Black could have won this , but lost two pawns and had to settle for forcing an entertaining draw ...

Round 4 : budugu vs yemisco - Evenly-played Ruy Lopez game , untill White can snatch the ubiquitous 1-pawn ad. Then some careful endgame play and another blunder by Black on #49(which stops his best chance at a Q) clears the path for White to Q ...

Round 5 : playwaycool vs Paulkov - nice Black upset of a player 200 pts higher . The opening allows Black to dominate the middle with its c,d,e, AND f pawns . Then , as the power gets traded off , White is unable to defend against all the passers ...

Round 6 : SneakyRed vs Antmantis - well-planned attack from White ; plays very positionally until he can swing the bN all the way around to f5 . It takes the black B , which then weakens the middle and the castled K's defense ...
